Objectives of the PVoC Program:
- Ensure Product Quality, Health, and Safety: Protect Kenyan consumers by verifying that imported products meet national quality and safety standards.
- Facilitate Trade: Enable faster customs clearance for compliant goods at Kenyan ports of entry.
- Protect Local Industries: Safeguard against unfair trade practices and the dumping of substandard or counterfeit goods.
- Ensure National Security: Prevent the importation of goods that may pose risks to national safety and public welfare.
- Prevent Deceptive Trade Practices: Uphold market integrity by ensuring imported goods are accurately represented and meet the declared specifications.
Responsibilities of Exporters and Importers:
- Compliance with Kenya’s Import Requirements:
Ensure that products destined for Kenya meet the quality, safety, and regulatory requirements specified in the applicable Kenya Standards or approved specifications.
- Obtain a Certificate of Conformity (CoC):
Secure a CoC from the TUV Austria prior to shipment for all regulated products.
- Testing and Inspection:
Conduct necessary tests and inspections on goods based on the relevant Kenyan standards before shipment to ensure full compliance.
